plant PROMOTING FITNESS AND WELL-BEING
As well as providing P.E. lessons of a very high standard both within and outside the school environment we are very keen to develop the health and fitness of all Ysgol Abercaseg pupils by encouraging them to participate in numerous activities during break time such as travelling along the adventure trail, running around the school field and playing a variety of games with their friends.

plant COOKERY CLUB
An after school Cookery Club has been established for Year 2 pupils which gives them an excellent opportunity to learn about healthy food and a balanced diet by completing a variety of cookery activities. Of course the highlight of each session is tasting and sharing the food that they have prepared! The parents are invited to the last few sessions so that the children can display their new cooking skills.

plant YOUNG DRAGON’S CLUB
Year 1 and 2 pupils enjoy participating in ‘The Young Dragons’ after school club which allows them to relax, improve their fitness and enjoy themselves by playing a variety of games.

plant FRUIT SHOP
We encourage the children to eat fruit/vegetables with their daily milk/water. This snack can be brought from home and fruit is also sold at the school shop. We promote the drinking of water during the day and encourage the children to bring a bottle/flask of water with them to school each morning.

plant COOKERY LESSONS
As part of the classes’ thematic work the pupils are given the opportunity to learn more about healthy food and a balanced diet by participating in cookery activities.

plant SCHOOL LUNCH
A healthy, balanced and tasty school lunch is provided daily at school and the day’s menu can be viewed in the canteen window. As we promote healthy eating we kindly ask all parents who wish to provide their children with a packed lunch to include healthy food and not too many sweet items in the lunch box.

plant BREAKFAST CLUB
Everyone is welcome to join the ‘Breakfast Club’ where they can enjoy a healthy breakfast and time to relax with their friends before starting on the busy activities of the school day.

plant TEETH BRUSHING
All the children at the school have the opportunity to brush their teeth daily and take the task very seriously. We are pleased to be surrounded by the sparkling smiles of our pupils!

plant PLAYGROUND BUDDIES AND THE BUDDY STOP
We are grateful to our Year 2 pupils who are Playground Buddies during break time and work hard to ensure that everyone is happy and involved in the outside activities. A Buddy Stop has been established where the children can go to get help from the Buddies. There are also many adults supervising and engaging with the pupils at break time.

plant THE CHILDREN’S VOICE
The pupils can express their opinions and share their ideas about school life on the outside blackboard during play time. The ‘Ideas Squad’ also provides an excellent opportunity for all the children to participate in the planning and decision making process at their school.

plant SCHOOL GARDEN
There is a well established garden at Abercaseg school which provides the children with a superb opportunity to plant and grow their own healthy food and is an excellent environment for outdoor learning.

plant ROAD SAFETY
Year 1 pupils are very fortunate in being able to take part in the ‘Kerbcraft’ project and enjoy going out to learn about how to stay safe whilst walking in the surrounding environment.

plant VISITS BY P.C. MEIRION
Each term all the children enjoy listening to P.C.Meirion’s presentations and discussing topics such as People who help us, School and community rules and Saying No, Don’t Touch.
